Anime review: Princess Mononoke

A Miyazaki film

Ashitaka is a young warrior with a problem. Iron has turned one of the forest gods evil and in its deaththrows it infected him with the posion that killed it, cursing him and all his kind. This starts a quest to find a cure, along the way we meet a cast of characters that show the many faces of mankind. From the regal Lady Eboshi to the brave Princess Monoke, Miyazaki shows us both faces of the battle between the natural world and the growing need of mankind for technology.

The unique Japanese view on the balance of nature and technology is different from ours but the story is one that is universal.

This movie is definitely up to the level of Miyazai’s work. Not for the littlest of the anime fans but I would say a good family movie.
