book review: Nearly Departed in Deadwood by Ann Charles and C.S. Kunkle

This fun first book in a series is almost perfect. Violet is a young single mom of twins living with her aunt and trying to make a go at being a real estate agent. she has a month to make a sale before she loses her job and has to move back in with her parents.

A various set of quirky and fun characters are co-workers, friends, enemies and possible clients/boyfriends. She discovers that there has been a series of kidnappings of young girls over the past year, girls who look a lot like her daughter. Between trying to figure out who just might be kidnapping kids before her daughter gets snagged. Keeping her daughter from bringing home every animal she finds, her son from digging up bones and keeping her mind on selling homes and not dating her clients life is busy.

While this is clearly in the cosy mystery category it has more punch and tension than you would expect. Great pacing, fun characters and twists that I didn’t see coming, this book was a lot of fun.
